About the Christian Action League of North Carolina...

...When 1.4 million babies are aborted every year in this country; (NC Right to Life 2000)

...When 51% of church involved youth drink beer and 52% use marijuana, and these do not differ greatly from youth who are not in church; (Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of SBC 1997 Study)

...When there is an average of one auto alcohol related fatality every 33 minutes and 3 million alcohol related crimes occur each year; (US Dept. of Trans. Nat'l Hwy. Traffic Safety Admin. Fact Sheet 1999/www.nhtsa.dot.gov)

...When the sale of obscene materials amounts to a $56 billion business annually and there are more hard-core pornography outlets in America than there are McDonald's restaurants; (Forbes Apr. 10, 2000; Liberty Alliance 7/2000)

...When 26% of born-again Christians are currently or have previously been divorced, compared to 24% of adults who are not born-again (Barna Research 1999)

...When there is a major push in America to give same-sex couples the same rights and privileges of marriage;

...When Christians are actively persecuted and discriminated against on the job, in the schools or other public venues;

...When prayer and the Ten Commandments are rejected by the public school systems;

...When the churches of our nation know about these problems and still are largely unwilling to address the social evils of our day for fear of ridicule or rejection...or because they erroneously believe the church ought not to get involved in politics...

SOMEBODY REALLY SHOULD DO SOMETHING...

This is what the ministry of the Christian Action League is about. The Christian Action League currently represents conservative evangelicals from 15 Christian denominations in the Tar Heel State that cooperatively address the social, ethical and moral issues impacting the lives of Christians today. The Christian Action League ministers in several areas of vital concern, making it strategic to the moral climate of North Carolina...

  • We are in the General Assembly of North Carolina with a full-time presence promoting legislation that is consistent with a Christian worldview. We advocate for those measures that strengthen the family and oppose legislation that would erode the family structure. We are the voice of conservative evangelical Christians in the State Legislature.

  • We discourage the promotion and use of beverage alcohol and other drugs, pornography, sexual immorality and other sinful practices that not only undermine the spiritual lives of those who participate in them, but also undermine the strength of our State and National character.

  • We are on the frontline combating the gambling industry and its highly paid lobbyist in their efforts to promote legalized gambling for North Carolina.

  • One of our most important tasks is training, developing, and motivating Christians to be involved in the political process. We want to mobilize Christians to be as Jesus commanded them to be -- the salt and light of the earth. Christians are to arrests and expose such contemporary issues as abortion, gambling, suicide, sex education, homosexuality, and we provide the information and help needed to deal with these critical issues.

HISTORY OF THE CHRISTIAN ACTION LEAGUE...

The Christian Action League was originally chartered more than a century ago in North Carolina as the Anti-Saloon League. Then in 1937, during the Baptist State Convention in Wilmington, N.C., a committee was formed to meet with the leadership of other religious bodies for the express purpose of forming an interdenominational, statewide organization that would more effectively combat the liquor traffic in North Carolina. As a result of this action, the Allied Church League for the Abolition of Beverage Alcohol was born.

In 1958, however, the charter was amended so the organization would no longer simply address matters of alcohol policy, but would also combat any legislative or public policy inconsistent with Christian teaching. That's when the name was changed from the Allied Church League to its current title, Christian Action League of North Carolina, Inc.

Today the Christian Action League has representatives serving on its Advisory Board in nearly all 100 counties in the Tar Heel State. It has the largest network of members, volunteers, and churches of any Christian Public Policy organization in North Carolina.
