BETHLEHEM, N.C. — Residents of Alexander county were anything but silent Monday night, November 26, when given a chance to speak out against a proposed shopping center annexation by Hickory — a move that would bring beer, wine, and Liquor-by-the-Drink sales to Bethlehem, North Carolina.

"I certainly hope we can stop it," said the Rev. David Ross, pastor of Fellowship Advent Christian Church and one of more than 200 people who showed up at the meeting called by the Alexander County Board of Commissioners to discuss the idea presented by local pharmacist and businessman, Gary Sain.

Co-owner of the Bethlehem Village Shopping Center, Sain wants Hickory, which is in Catawba County, to annex some 34 acres, including the development, so that businesses there could sell beer and wine. Currently, alcohol sales are not allowed anywhere in Alexander County, with the exception of Taylorsville and in businesses that have special permits. But if Hickory annexed, alcohol sales would become automatic because Hickory has already approved a referendum. Read More

Christian Bashing: The Last Acceptable Bigotry
Christian Action League of North Carolina, Inc.
December 6, 2007

As Christians around the country are met with violence and marginalization, Dr. Gary Cass, has founded the Christian Anti- Defamation Commission (CADC) a new organization that aims to counter threats to millions of Christians' First Amendment rights.

While the overwhelming majority of Americans are professed Christians, it has become routine for the media and elites to openly mock and trivialize Christians because they choose to express their faith.

In his new book Christian Bashing and the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, Dr. Cass examines the threats, slurs and violence being perpetrated against Christians — and the apathetic reaction of American society. "When controversial statements are made against certain groups, there is a demand for an immediate apology. When anti- Christian sentiments flow from the media, there is never a response — until now," said Dr. Cass. Read More
